With a plethora of breathtaking natural surroundings, a thriving local economy, and some of the most highly sought-after residential neighbourhoods in the GTA, there’s everything to love about living in Mississauga.
With such a vast array of unique and appealing neighbourhoods, however, knowing which of the many Mississauga communities suit your lifestyle best can be hard to know. With our local expertise, however, we can help make that process easier.
To learn about five of our favourite Mississauga communities to call home, read through our guide to the city here.
1. Lorne Park
Mississauga’s waterfront neighbourhood of Lorne Park has always been one of the most sought-after locales in the city. In fact, back in the early 19th century, most of this southwestern Mississauga community actually acted as a resort for holiday-takers primarily coming from downtown Toronto!
Today, while Lorne Park is no longer viewed as a lust-worthy holiday destination to Toronto’s elite class, the Mississauga community is still one of the most prestigious, desirable neighbourhoods in the area — this time, catering to permanent residents.
Trademarked for its genuinely magnificent assortment of detached homes perched atop generously-sized sprawling lots, most of the homes in this high-class Mississauga neighbourhood are true marvels of modern architecture. And, they’re mostly all set against the ideal backdrop of quiet winding residential streets, lined with mature maple, pine, and oak trees.
Due to Lorne Park’s serene surroundings and high safety ratings, this leafy neighbourhood is one of the best Mississauga communities for more established empty-nesters to find peace and tranquillity in or for families to raise children in.
Plus, Lorne Park is home to some of Mississauga’s most highly-rated schools, including Lorne Park Public School, White Oaks Public School, and Lorne Park Secondary School, which ranks within the top 5th percentile for schools across the province.
If you’ve got school-aged children at home, then you’ll be thrilled to know that Mississauga is also home to some of the best schools in the GTA too. Read about 5 Top-Notch Mississauga Schools here.
2. Streetsville
Located in the northwestern corner of the Mississauga, Streetsville is situated along the Credit River and isn’t far away from the city’s outermost border and the vast rural greenspace that lies beyond it. For this reason, Streetsville is among the most picturesque Mississauga communities and is full of small-town rural charm despite also remaining close in proximity to the city centre.
Streetsville’s distinctly recognizable small-town feel is also due to the neighbourhood’s rich industrial history, dating back to the early 1800s when saw and grist mills, tanneries, quarries operated in the area.
These industrial developments set the groundwork for the community that would grow around this thriving local workforce, and by 1974 the town of Streetsville amalgamated with the other Mississauga communities and officially became part of the city.
Since then, Streetsville has retained its tight-knit community feel and those who frequent the area will tell you it very much has its own unique feel, which is very conducive to family life. The heritage-driven local architecture in Streetsville has also remained intact, and it’s one of the best Mississauga communities to find original homes and buildings dating back to the neighbourhood’s earliest days.
As far as the houses go, Streetsville is also distinctly different from the typical suburban-style Mississauga neighbourhood. Instead, Streetsville is full of unique homes from a number of different eras including the 50s, 60s, 70s, and some modern structures too.

3. Central Erin Mills
Since its development along the westernmost border of Mississauga back in the 1970s by the Cadillac Fairview Corporation, Erin Mills has become one of the largest suburban districts among all Mississauga communities. Within the greater Erin Mills community is Central Erin Mills, which is the residential neighbourhood most locals refer to simply as ‘Erin Mills’.
Today, the master-planned suburban development of Central Erin Mills is one of Mississauga’s most highly-demanded neighbourhoods in the city and is home to one of the city’s largest local populations.
Surrounded by stunning parks, natural green spaces (including a gorgeous stretch of protected Greenbelt conservation area), and the sparkling Credit River Valley, Central Erin Mills is definitely one of the most naturally beautiful Mississauga communities. The pleasing natural topography in the area also makes for some of the most sought-after residential streets in the city, with many homes dotted along hilly, winding roads lined with leafy mature trees.
For this reason, along with the vast selection of highly-acclaimed local schools in the area, Central Erin Mills is among the most suitable Mississauga communities for young families. But that’s not the only demographic that lives here. Because Central Erin Mills’ real estate market is full of essentially every type of property from detached homes to condo buildings, the local population is notably diverse.
Additionally, Central Erin Mills is also very convenient for residents who regularly commute to work elsewhere. With Highways 403, 401, and the QEW all easily accessible, along with the Streetsville GO Station nearby too, living in blissful Central Erin Mills is easy no matter where its local residents may work.
4. Meadowvale
Located just east of Streetsville straddling both sides of the Credit River is where you’ll find Meadowvale, a densely populated suburban neighbourhood in northwestern Mississauga.
While the area now known as Meadowvale was actually originally settled upon by Irish immigrants back in the 1820s, the large master-planned community that stands there today was largely developed in the 1970s.
Meadowvale has historically been considered one of the most successful master-planned Mississauga communities and features amenities including top-rated schools, public parks, retail and recreation centres, and even two man-made lakes.
However, despite Meadowvale’s relatively recent expansion, there are still quite a few heritage-driven sites and structures that have hung around from the neighbourhood’s early years in the 19th century. Alongside a more recent expansion of modern townhouses in the area, most of the properties in Meadowvale were developed in the 70s and 80s, though it isn’t uncharacteristic to find the odd Victorian-era home here either.
Because of Meadowvale’s impressively large footprint and relatively affordable housing prices, it’s among the most diverse Mississauga communities. You’ll find everyone from young professionals to large families to empty-nesters here.

5. Mineola
Located directly north of the lakeside neighbourhood of Port Credit, Mineola is one of the southernmost Mississauga communities and has a strong reputation for being among the most luxurious. Perhaps the most exclusive neighbourhood in Mississauga, Mineola is an extremely sought-after place to live, partly due to its scenic surroundings.
With the gleaming shores of Lake Ontario within view and natural conservation areas boasting a plethora of tree varieties including ash, birch, hickory, oak, walnut, chestnut, and tulip. These stunning trees dot the beautiful winding residential streets here, which are home to a collection of luxurious homes about as diverse as Mineola’s tree varieties.
Mineola’s average resident tends to be quite affluent, which has resulted in a large number of truly striking custom houses being constructed in the area’s generously-sized lots. From modern to traditional, there are an enormous variety of architectural styles across the housing market in Mineola and are complemented by a smaller selection of townhomes and mid-century bungalows, though those also tend to cost quite a pretty penny.
Along with Mineola’s gorgeous natural topography and proximity to Lake Ontario, another major selling point for this Mississauga community is its close proximity to both Missississuaga’s city centre and downtown Toronto. With easy access to the QEW Highway, motorists can be in downtown Toronto in less than 20 minutes.
In addition, the nearby Port Credit GO Station also makes getting via public transport a simple task too, making Mineola an ideal neighbourhood for daily commuters or those who value seamless transportation.
